                                                          ORGANISATION

Administrative Control

The Department of Posts in India functions under the Director General of Posts, New Delhi. This official also serves as the Chairman of the Postal Board and the Secretary of the Department of Posts.

Postal Circles – Regional Division

India is divided into 23 Postal Circles, each usually aligned with a state boundary. Each circle is headed by a Chief Postmaster General.

Some circles cover multiple regions:

• • Gujarat Circle – includes Daman & Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli

  • Kerala Circle – includes Lakshadweep

  • Maharashtra Circle – includes Goa

  • North East Circle – includes Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura

  • Punjab Circle – includes Chandigarh

  • Tamil Nadu Circle – includes Puducherry

  • West Bengal Circle – includes Sikkim and Andaman & Nicobar Islands

Organizational Structure Within Circles

Each Circle is divided into Regions, led by Postmaster Generals, which are further subdivided into:

• • Postal Divisions – overseen by Senior Superintendents/Superintendents of Post Offices

  • RMS (Railway Mail Service) Divisions – handled by Senior Superintendents/Superintendents RMS

Support units include:

• • Circle Stamp Depots

  • Postal Stores Depots

  • Mail Motor Service

Army Postal Service (APS)

In addition to the 23 civil postal circles, there is a Base Circle for the Armed Forces’ postal needs.

• • Headed by an Additional Director General, APS (rank of Major General)

  • Officers come on deputation from the Department of Posts

  • 75% of the non-officer staff is from the Postal Department; the rest are recruited by the Army

भारत में डाक विभाग डाक महानिदेशक (Director General of Posts) के अधीन कार्य करता है, जिनका मुख्यालय नई दिल्ली में स्थित है। डाक महानिदेशक, डाक बोर्ड के अध्यक्ष और डाक विभाग के सचिव के रूप में भी कार्य करते हैं।

डाक मंडल – क्षेत्रीय विभाजन

पूरे देश को 23 डाक मंडलों (Postal Circles) में बाँटा गया है, जिनमें से प्रत्येक आमतौर पर एक राज्य के अनुरूप होता है। हर मंडल का नेतृत्व एक मुख्य पोस्टमास्टर जनरल (Chief Postmaster General) द्वारा किया जाता है।

कुछ मंडल अतिरिक्त क्षेत्र भी कवर करते हैं:

• • गुजरात मंडल – दमन व दीव और दादरा व नगर हवेली

  • केरल मंडल – लक्षद्वीप

  • महाराष्ट्र मंडल – गोवा

मंडलों के अंतर्गत संगठनात्मक संरचना

प्रत्येक मंडल को क्षेत्रों (Regions) में बाँटा गया है, जिनका नेतृत्व पोस्टमास्टर जनरल (Postmaster General) करते हैं। ये क्षेत्र आगे निम्नानुसार बाँटे जाते हैं:

• • पोस्टल डिवीज़न – जिनका संचालन वरिष्ठ अधीक्षक/अधीक्षक डाकघर द्वारा किया जाता है।

  • रेलवे मेल सेवा (RMS) डिवीज़न – वरिष्ठ अधीक्षक/अधीक्षक RMS द्वारा नियंत्रित।

सहायक इकाइयों में शामिल हैं:

• • सर्कल स्टाम्प डिपो

  • पोस्टल स्टोर्स डिपो

  • मेल मोटर सेवा

सेना डाक सेवा (APS)

इन 23 सिविल डाक मंडलों के अतिरिक्त, एक विशेष मंडल “बेस सर्कल” के रूप में कार्य करता है, जो भारतीय सशस्त्र बलों की डाक आवश्यकताओं को पूरा करता है।

• • इसका नेतृत्व एडिशनल डायरेक्टर जनरल, सेना डाक सेवा (Major General रैंक) करते हैं

  • अधिकारी वर्ग डाक विभाग से प्रतिनियुक्ति (deputation) पर आता है

  • गैर-अधिकारी स्टाफ का लगभग 75% हिस्सा डाक विभाग से होता है, शेष की भर्ती सेना द्वारा की जाती है

नोट

स्थानीय डाक अधीक्षक या RMS अधीक्षक का पता संबंधित डाकघर या RMS कार्यालय से प्राप्त किया जा सकता है।
